Tutorial - Turn Dollar Store Coasters into Custom Coasters

Posted By:  Stephanie

I hope this post finds all of you well!  I don't know where you are but here in the Oregon/Washington area Fall is in full effect with lots of rain and falling leaves.  I have to admit, I kind of love it.  I'm a fan of all the seasons that we are so lucky to experience here so I welcome the rainy season with open umbrella arms!  Now onto the tutorial I mentioned above.

I found these coasters that basically just had a paper on top from our local Dollar Tree.  I though, hmmm why not custom make these to fit my taste, it isn't anywhere close to Independence day so the stars and stripes just wont do.

As you can see they are cork on the back.

I found this piece of paper in my stash and decided it was perfect.  I would have coasters that would be different but all match.

Next I traced the coasters on the back.

Cut them out.

Put mod podge on the front of the coaster so the paper would stick.

Once then put another later on top to seal it.  I actually let it try and did this twice.

Please refer back to the first picture for the final product.  I was happy with how they turned out and I'm thinking I might even custom make some for maybe a specific person or party.  What do you think?

Tutorial: Kids Play Makeup

Posted By:  Stephanie

Lately my little girl who's 2 loves to play with makeup.  It doesn't matter to her if it is real or fake, to her it is all VERY real = )

I decided that I would get a head start on Christmas gifts and make her a set of eye shadows and blush to go in a "makeup" kit for her.

I got these from the Dollar Store, that way I wasn't wasting good makeup.  I don't wear enough myself to have a lot of spare containers laying around, if you do use those.

Pick some nail polish colors you feel would work well for your "makeup".

I found using a toothpick and running it around the outer edge of the makeup made it either pop right out or break up really well so it came out pretty clean.

I then used a q-tip to clean out the corners to make them really look nice and real makeup free.

Next add the nail polish.  I did just enough so that the bottom was covered and you don't see metal, then paint the outer brim of the metal to give it the effect that it is completely full.

There you have it, mess free makeup for your little one or as a gift for a little girl you know would love it.  All you have to do is wait for it to dry.  Warning, this is a bit of a stinky process!

Birthday Banner

I have another Silhouette project to share! Lou's Birthday banner is almost done, and of course shaped as fishes since this is a water party! = )

Elmo Invites

Posted By: Kristi

I told you I would give you step by step details of how I made the Elmo/Water party invites, so here I go...

It started with my inspiration, I found it here.

Lou loves water so early on Steph and I decided her Birthday needed to be a water theme, naturally. Well, recently Elmo came into Lou's life and she decided she needed to have an Elmo party. UH-OH. Problem was quickly solved when we decided to have a water party with a little Elmo on the side. ; )

When I found this Elmo invite online I realized I could change it up a bit to really work the way we had pictured. That is when I came up with this:

I took out my Silhouette and started cutting out my shapes and slowly piecing the invite together.

The only thing that really took very long was making a lot of them. The invitation itself was easy to piece together!

More party stuff to share soon!

Birthday Invites

Finally, I have pictures of Lou's Birthday invites to share. I blurred out the personal details so they don't look as great as they do in real life, but you get the gist, right? ; )

I will share step by step details soon! Good night everyone!

Lou's Birthday - Decorations

Posted By: Kristi

Birthday invitations are done and ready to be mailed out! I will post pictures soon, I just need to edit out the address, etc. and it is a pain. = )

I am also working on decorations for the party and thought I would give a little sneak peek. I have been making everything on my Silhouette machine, I LOVE my Silhouette (the machine, that is ; )

This Birthday theme has been a lot of fun to work with!

DIY Wedding Invites

Posted By: Kristi

I recently showed you our wedding invites and promised to give you details later. Well, later has finally come. I have been putting this off because explaining isn't as fun as doing. There are so many details and I don't want to forget anything. = )

One day, I was searching Pinterest when I found this image.

I thought it was pretty cool and decided to make my own. Mine are almost exactly the same, minus the ribbon.

Instead of printing out addresses and pasting them on the luggage tag, I taped the luggage tag onto card stock and fed it through my printer. I have had the best of luck with my printer so far, I have really tested what it can do.

Once I was done with the luggage (packaging), I started on the actual invite. I wanted to make a message in a bottle and quickly decided that I wanted the message (invite) to be cloth. I ordered the boxes, bottles, sand and shells from ColoredSand.com.

My sister, Samantha, was a huge help with making with the actual invite. We lined up the bottles and filled them with a bit of both sand and shells.

Next, I created the invite on my Silhouette machine.

Unfortunately, my Silhouette blade was dull so I had to cut the invites out myself. Otherwise, I could have saved myself a few steps. Instead, I cut out the cloth (fabric) I had purchased for our invites, a little smaller then the card stock and then spray adhesived it onto my card stock.

Once it was stuck onto the card stock, I fed it through my printer.

We then cut them out along the line and tore them off the card stock.

Stephanie let is use her grommet machine so we could add a grommet to the top corner of the invite, making it easier to pull the message out of the bottle.

I fed jute through the grommet and added a circle key label that I stamped with a B (our last name is/will be, Bizon). Here is the completed message in a bottle.

If you have any questions, let me know. = ) I hope you enjoying your weekend!
